It is crucial that you learn how to use footwork to evade (avoid) the strikes from a longer assailants reach. This is especially true if you are the shorter person.
Evading an assailants strikes reduces your chances of getting injured, which could happen when blocking them.
Additionally, using your footwork to evade strikes can put you in the ideal position to reach the bigger assailant to counterattack.

Evading punches and kicks diagonally, which will allow you to counterattack.
